The following samples are from various projects I did while at the School of Museum of Fine Arts (Boston, MA). The first was to design a poster for an upcoming film festival in Boston. Instead of focusing on the festival's location, I chose to feature the subject. The main component of the print is a photo I took of popcorn spilling out of a popcorn box. I set the popcorn up in a way that is would frame the festival's title, and used the red color from the box as my main pop of color.

The next is a redesign of a book cover. I chose "And Then There Were None" by Agatha Christie. The book is a murder mystery in which one of the main deaths involves hanging. I took a minimalist approach to the cover using only text to make a noose. Then on the back I just used a simple chair along side the description. For color, red seemed to tie in well with the murder theme and for typefaces I used ones with an art deco style as the book takes place in the 1920's.

The following project was to design a wine label for Sterling Vineyards' Red Zinfandel. The name "sterling" brought to mind silverware. I also liked the idea of silhouettes on a wine bottle so I combined the two to make the cut out place setting seen on the bottle. I kept the rest of the design simple to balance it out using only black and white colors and two typefaces.

The last design is magazine layout. I chose an article on the artist Kehinde Wiley. Wiley paints contemporary subjects (mostly black, urban men and women) in the poses of classic paintings. For the opening page, I wanted the reader to understand this before reading the full article. To represent the duality of his paintings, I took one of his most famous, Napoleon Leading the Army over the Alps, split it in half, and positioned it next to half of the original painting, Jacques-Louis David's Bonaparte Crossing the Alps at Grand-Saint-Bernard. I again reinforced the idea of old vs. new in my typeface choice in the subheading.
