Finishing Touch Events

Finishing Touch Events is a “day of” event coordination company, which specializes in weddings. Founded by my colleague, Molly Chalmers, and me in March of 2021, our goal is to help couples achieve the day of their dreams by turning their wedding vision into a reality. We completely take the pressure off couples by being the main point of contact for their vendors, making sure everything is set up correctly and looks amazing, and guiding them and their bridal party through all the major points of the day.

Starting my own company was a challenge, but has been so greatly rewarding and gave me the exciting chance to create a brand identity from the ground up. Our first step was deciding on a name. After playing around with a few options, we decided on Finishing Touch Events. While working at the Wedding Belle, Molly and I had a lot of practice (and fun) tying bows together. I thought it would be a great idea to incorporate a bow into the business as bows served as not only a symbol of our friendship and working relationship, but also as a symbol of a final product. The phrase “put a bow on it” or “finished with a bow on top” kept popping into my head, and from there morphed into “the finishing touch.” Since we are solely focused on “day of” coordination, our job is really putting the “finishing touch” on all our couples’ hard work so that they can relax and enjoy their day.

Once we had settled on the name “Finishing Touch Events,” it was time to create a logo. I knew I wanted to use a script font for “finishing touch.” I always associate wedding paper products and signage with calligraphy so it seemed like the logical choice of typeface. I ended up using Willow Lane. I liked the clean, handwritten look to the font and the fact it had ligatures and swashes, which I used on the first and last letter to make the name look flowy and romantic. I then paired Willow Lane with the typeface Neutra Text for the word “Events,” to give it a modern balance. Since the name originated from the idea of bows, I thought incorporating a bow into the logo made sense. After trying out several different bow designs, we chose as simple one I drew myself. The bow, however, ended up making the logo look too busy so we decided to use it as an accent design symbol in other areas of our branding, like business cards and the website, instead.

The final step was deciding on a color scheme. Originally, since it is a bridal business, we played around with different shades of blue and teal. We didn’t love anything though, and blue for weddings was starting to feel a little overdone. I wanted our company to look fresh and modern, but also stand out from other bridal businesses. After doing a lot of color tests, we ended up deciding on a dark green with a lighter sage green and muted pink as accent colors. The green had an earthy feel to it that felt natural, and also it complemented the wedding photography we had for the website and social media quite well.

Overall, I am very pleased with the final Finishing Touch Events logo design. To see more of how this branding was carried out, please visit our website and Instagram page.
